WAR SURVIVORS CAMPAIGN

SUPPORT AFGHAN WOMEN’S RIGHTS ADVOCATES & ALLIES  |  SUMMER 2022

Over July 15th to August 31st, 2022, Humanitarian Bazaar and its allies will launch a fund drive campaign to rally direct support for Afghan widow-headed families and women’s rights advocates we know personally who are currently threatened and attempting to migrate or go into hiding, alongside covering costs to help other team members and advance the project in Ukraine and Syria. This is all part of our War Survivors Advisory, it’s coming training manual, How Civilians Survive War (late 2022), and documentary-in-progress, How We Survive (2023). Here’s how the campaign will work and who we are helping. ===>

HOW WILL THE FUNDS BE SPENT?

Over 2013-2022, Humanitarian Bazaar conducted many projects, but our most important and dangerous has been our War Survivors Advisory. We conducted deep research on how to speed up the learning curve for civilians trapped on the frontlines, including how to advise humanitarian agencies to improve earlier evacuations and shielding techniques. Having to overcome numerous violent attacks on our partners, terror strikes hitting close to us, robberies, and losses, we had to work carefully and patiently.

Along the way, in 2021-2022, our Afghan frontline team members and close allies were forced to escape or go into hiding threatened by the takeover of the Taliban; we helped some evacuate, but others are still trapped. Then in 2022, when the Russia-Ukrainian War escalated, we had even more team members forced to shield or escape. While our findings will be presented in our coming guidebook, How Civilians Survive War, and our documentary-in-progress, How We Survive, we have a moral imperative to help our field teams, at least the Afghan widow-headed families and women’s rights advocates first. That said, here is an overview of the budget break down:

  1. Grants for Special Needs (35%)
    1. Afghanistan: Trapped widow-headed households  |  2 families  |
    2. Afghanistan: Womens rights advocates seeking safe migration  |  3 families  |

  3. Core Program Costs (25%)
