Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts (United States), Danish Refugee Council (Afghanistan), Sound Central Festival (Afghanistan), Front Line Mission (Ukraine), Muslim Jewish Conference (Bosnia & Austria), the Academy for Crisis Management (Germany), and many others.

PRO BONO SERVICES FOR AT-RISK FAMILIES & ARTISTS

  • Achievements. Currently in Autumn 2021, we have been advising our Afghan former co-workers and allies and coordinating evacuation applications and safety advisory research. That started before the August Taliban takeover. Prior to this we provided refugee and asylum direct casework for families from Somalia, Afghanistan, Syria, and Iran. Beyond this, our War Survivors Advisory project will publish its long awaited civilian self-protection manual and multimedia resource to help reduce the numbers of civilians hurt in mass violence, and our Frontline Music project provides pro bono promotion and advisory support to musicians and artists overcoming the toughest challenges to promote peace.
  • Prior Partners & Clients. Currently, we are keeping the names of most families private for security reasons. However, Humanitarian Bazaar is already well known in the East African community for our long term support for Somali hip hop group Waayaha Cusub, which was covered by the BBC. That case included helping 12 total threatened artists and children obtain asylum in Europe, and helping 3 related people evacuate to avoid threats in Somalia. We will share stories of others who have gone public about their asylum story when they are ready.
  • Services Offered. Currently, we are postponing pro bono support for a bit because we are overwhelmed with cases. When we catch up on core funding, then we can provide this support again. In the meantime, we are happy to provide advice and potentially refer any highly vulnerable families when we have time.
  • Team Involved. HB founder/director Daniel J. Gerstle has served as an emergency coordinator, security planner, and refugee assistance provider for humanitarian teams in Africa, The Middle East, and Eastern Europe.
