JOURNEY OF PEACE

 

After running the successful Mogadishu Music Festival, Somali hiphop group Waayaha Cusub, supported by Humanitarian Bazaar and donors, ran the Journey of Peace Festival in the Dadaab refugee settlements in Kenya. Five events were aimed to persuade youth to turn away from extremism and help end the war.

December 23, 2013 | Journey of Peace: Concert & Open Mic, Dadaab-Ifo, Kenya. Surprise Ifo Youth Concert. Waayaha Cusub launches Journey of Peace youth outreach campaign at the Ifo social center. MC Digriyow Abdi leads involvement of youth to take turns at the open microphone to speak their minds, debate how to reduce extremism and violence, recite poetry, or perform a song.
December 24, 2013 | Journey of Peace: Open Mic, Dadaab-Dhagahaley, Kenya. Surprise Dhagahaley Youth Concert. Waayaha Cusub runs Journey of Peace youth outreach campaign at the Dhagahaley social center. MC Digriyow Abdi leads involvement of youth to take turns at the open microphone to speak their minds, debate, recite poetry, or perform a song. Local Dhagahaley singing group performs, as well.
December 25, 2013 | Journey of Peace: Football-Against-Extremism, Dadaab, Kenya. Surprise Dadaab Football-Against-Extremism Game. Waayaha Cusub make a celebrity appearance at the Dadaab football tournament, speak about the Journey of Peace campaign against violence extremism, and take part in the game.
December 26, 2013 | Journey of Peace: Dadaab Radio Show, Dadaab, Kenya. Shiine Akhyaar, Digriyow Abdi, and Lihle Muhidin Nur speak on the radio show “Codka Shacabka Dadaab” about the message of Journey of Peace, about reducing extremism, and about how to respond peacefully to Kenya’s new pressure on refugees.
December 29, 2013 | Journey of Peace: Concert, Dadaab-Hagadher, Kenya. Surprise Hagadher Youth Concert. Waayaha Cusub runs Journey of Peace youth outreach campaign at the Hagadher social center. MC Digriyow Abdi leads involvement of youth to take turns at the open microphone to speak their minds, debate, recite poetry, or perform a song. Local Hagadher singing group performs, as well.
