Humanitarian Bazaar
Welcome to Humanitarian Bazaar! We’re an arts community committed to promoting peace and an end to violence. We produce creative projects focused on how people survive war and disaster, including stories of hope and endurance you’ll find here. Some stories are tough, others light, and still others are meant to help unify our humanitarian arts community around things we care about. You may find a dear friend telling the story of their arduous survival through an earthquake, or you may find a terrific recipe you can make with ingredients found in the remote village where you are working.
If you’re new to HB, we started our as an online magazine, then added media production, advocacy, research, consulting, and training, and alongside that we produced the historic Mogadishu Music Festival (aka Somali Reconciliation Festival, Somalia) with superhero bands Waayaha Cusub, Afro Simba, Alsarah, Ariana Delawari, and ft. K’naan; produced the Journey of Peace Festival in Dadaab refugee settlements; and helped Combat Comms produce Sound Central, Aafghanistan. Our work has been covered by the BBC, CNN, VICE, Guardian, Aljazeera, Rolling Stone, and more (disclaimer about HB’s legal status?).
Honestly, as a small humanitarian arts community we all have our own other careers, so this is where we come together to share stories, shape new ideas, and experiment for the humanitarian and human rights causes. But it’s not easy. As our partners and team succeeded in tough areas, often the extremists and war profiteers struck back. They killed a lot of people. We lost friends. We were wounded. We were robbed numerous times. We were threatened. And on top of all of that, some of us faced tough health issues which forced us to work more offline the past years.
Now, we are happy to say we are back at least for this capstone year to fulfill our promises solve all accounts, and premiere all the documentary film, music, and art we created together. Take a look around!
