FIELD NOTES | Postproduction on Somali Sunrise ft. Waayaha Cusub

With great pride and relief, singer Felis Abdi, rapper Shiine Akhyaar, and I (Daniel) can now share with you that after an epic twelve year journey, we now have a full 110 minute rough cut of our feature documentary Somali Sunrise (aka Live from Mogadishu, hip hop’s journey to help end a war) which they as the lead characters like and approve of! Wheeeeeewwwww.

 

As many of you know, the journey was dangerous. Extremists killed scores of our allies, hitting several of our partners, shooting Shiine, and robbing us and spreading disinformation to slow the artists down and inter alia to prevent this film from coming out.

 

Now we can move to final postproduction. The current draft is mostly in Somali and Swahili, so translations continue, plus narrative revisions, archive rights, style shaping, color, and then we will bring all the partners back together for the world premiere. Thanks to all who supported so far!
