VIDEO | Afghanistan: Turn it Up in Central Asia

October 2011  |  Culture  |  An HB collaborative short video

Humanitarian Bazaar in cooperation with Combat Comms and Sound Central Festival

In fall 2011, Afghanistan’s first four rock bands–Morcha, Kabul Dreams, District Unknown, and White Page, together with Travis Beard and his production company, Combat Comms, launched Afghanistan’s first rock music fest, Sound Central Festival. Humanitarian Bazaar (then known as HELO Magazine) served as co-producer.

TURN IT UP IN CENTRAL ASIA

That included working in Kabul to help White Page with website, promotions, music video, and tour planning, and District Unknown with website and promotion; and running two Afghan Rock Bunker Concerts to promote the event globally from New York. We also got musicians at the festival and on the advisory board to produce this promotional video. That ranges from Brian Viglione (The Dresden Dolls/USA), Marcy Playground (USA), Ariana Delawari (Afghan/USA), Fereshta (Afghan/USA), Eklektika (Kazakhstan), Tears of the Sun (Uzbekistan), YXFM (USA), Gato Loco (USA), and more.
