HUMANITARIAN BAZAAR MAGAZINE

Humanitarian Bazaar began its journey with the creation of it’s first project HELO Magazine (“Hee-lo” is the slang term for helicopter in crisis zones), an online magazine for literary, photo, and video stories too creative, long, or local for conventional publications. Our first story was Nate Miller’s telling of what it was like to survive a plane crash on the Congo-Namibian border. With interviews from icons ranging from late war journalist Tim Hetherington (who allowed us to include his surreal documentary, Diary) to punk icon and veteran’s advocate Henry Rollins to post-punk hero Amanda Palmer, the web magazine succeeded primarily on interviews and debate about what should come next for people responding for the public good and to protect civilians in crisis areas. We had round table debates on Sudan, Iraq, and the Pacific Island crises. After a good run from 2009 to 2014, we will be restoring the full magazine and archive online again in 2017. More updates will be added here soon.
